Mary E. Nix, 89, passed away Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006, in Fort Worth.
Celebration of Life Service: 11 a.m. Thursday at Wiley Funeral Home. Burial: Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Hood County. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials can be made to the charity of choice.
Mary Edith Halbert Nix, the youngest of 10 children, was born Jan. 1, 1917, in Erath County, near the little town of Morgan Mill. She was the youngest daughter of Charles Webster "Webb" and Mary "Maggie" Magdalene (Graves) Halbert. Mrs. Nix attended a one-teacher school called Tennessee until the eighth grade. Then the family moved to Stephenville where she graduated from high school. She attended Tarleton College and then received her Masters Degree from North Texas University in Denton.


Mrs. Nix taught school for 39 years in Hood County. She taught 33 of these years in the Tolar schools. She was a Baptist and taught the primary children in Sunday School and Training Union for many years.
Mrs. Nix had many hobbies but playing "42," "88," Mexican Dominoes, Canasta and bingo, were just a few. She and her husband also traveled extensively and visited almost every state in the U.S.A.. They spent many summer vacations camping and fishing in Colorado and Wyoming.
Mrs. Nix married Otis J. Nix on April 8, 1939. Otis passed away April 9, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and three sisters.


Survivors: Beloved nieces and nephews; one sister-in-law; many dear friends and countless ex-students; and all her dear friends at the Estates.
