Deputy Allman was killed in an single vehicle accident while responding to a call of a suspicious person at approximately 0135 hours. During the response Deputy Allman's cruiser went out of control and struck a tree. He was killed instantly upon impact. A passerby used the radio in Deputy Allman's cruiser to call for help.

Deputy Allman had served in law enforcement for 12 years. He was survived by his wife Tina and two sons, James II and Matthew.

Incident: Deputy James Allman was responding to a call when he was involved in an accident in the 400 block of Eastfork Road, near Gloria. Allman was traveling southeast on Eastfork Road. He was coming out of a right curve and slid off the road hitting a tree on the driver's side. He died instantly. Allman had been with the sheriff's office for 12 years. Allman had also served as a baliff, patrolman, detention service officer and he had worked in internal affairs.

He was survived by his wife, who is also a deputy, his two sons, his mother, father, sister and brother.

On Saturday, August 5, 1995, Dallas County Deputy Sheriff James Allman, patrol division, had just completed a traffic stop when he was dispatched at 1:17 a.m. to investigate the report of a suspicious person. A man was reported hanging his legs outside the driver's door of a car parked on Highway 80 between Beltline and Lawson Roads. Allman was driving southbound on East Fork Road in Sunnyvale when he skidded off the road where it made a 90 degree right turn. Deputy Allman's squad car hit a tree on the driver's side of the vehicle. Allman died instantly. Deputy Allman had been assigned to the patrol division since September of 1994. He was a twelve year veteran of the Dallas County Sheriff's Department and had worked as a clerk, detention service officer, deputy cadet and a deputy in the bailiff division. Allman had also worked in the internal affairs division as an investigator.

Allman was honored with the naming of the James Robert Allman Sub-Station for the Patrol Division, 402 Tower Place, Sunnyvale, Texas 1995. In January 2005, the Town of Sunnyvale relocated the Town Hall from 537 Long Creek, Sunnyvale, Texas. That location was made available for use by the Sheriff's Department and became the new Allman Sub-Station.
