Born Oct. 5, 1918, in Washington Township, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Louisa Nevin Ankenbrant.
She was a member of Hetzel's United Church of Christ, Pine Grove, and a former member of the VFW Post 3432 Auxiliary, Pine Grove.
Ellen worked in many factories in the area including Pine Valley, Pine Grove, as a sewer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert A. Berger, on June 24, 1991; six sisters, Edna Miller, Sallie Breidigan, Annie Krammes, Lizzie Hummel, Catherine Koch and Miriam Lehman; five brothers, Andrew Ankenbrant, Lester Ankenbrant, William Ankenbrant, Clarence Ankenbrant and George Ankenbrant.
Surviving are her daughter, Shirley German, Schuylkill Haven; three grandchildren, Dennis and wife, Michelle German, Pine Grove, Tena and husband, Keith Blankenhorn, Pine Grove, and Cindy and husband, Leslie Whitmoyer, Fredericksburg; seven great-grandchildren, Sarah Limbert, John Zimmerman, Jordan Blankenhorn, Jed Blankenhorn, Vanessa Gernan, Katrina German and Lucus German; a great-great-grandchild, Austin Limbert; a sister, Dorothy Schaeffer, Pine Grove; nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove. There will be a calling time from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Schuylkill Memorial Park Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven.
