He was the eldest of three children born to John and Laurine Weaver. He received his education in Atlanta, graduating from Morehouse College and later from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN.(1959). He completed his internship at Hubbard Hospital in Nashville and a residency in internal medicine at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Buffalo, N.Y.
From 1965 through 1978, he had a part-time private practice and worked part-time at the Student Health Service at Tennessee State University in Nashville. Weaver died at age 65 from heart failure.
