MRS M. A. WOOD.
On the 13th inst. there passed away at her home in Nash Street, Palmerston North, Mrs Mary Anne Wood, at the advanced age of 86. Mrs Wood was the last surviving member of the eight children of Mr and Mrs David Dick, who arrived by the ship Lord William Bentinck at Petone Beach in 1840. Mrs Wood was born in Wainui-o-Mata on December 31, 1852. She was of a retiring disposition, kindly, generous, home-loving and devoted to her family. Mrs Wood was married to Mr Tom Wood (who passed away a year ago) on March 11, 1875, at the Wesleyan Church, Wainui-o-Mata, Rev. J. B. Richardson performing the ceremony. For 13 years Mr and Mrs Wood lived in Wainui-o-Mata, after which they came to the Manawatu district, and 19 years ago they came to live in Palmerston North. Of a family of eleven, three children predeceased their parents - William Wood, Mrs Gill, and Norman Wood, the last-named making the supreme sacrifice at Gallipoli. Those remaining to mourn their loss are: Mesdames T. Dalziell, (Greymouth); J Mason, (Wellington); M. Shearman, (Palmerston North); J. McCarthy, (Auckland); W. Berquist, (Bay of Plenty); Messrs John Wood, (Palmerston North); Thomas and George Wood, (both of Shannon). There are 42 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. The interment took place at the Kelvin Grove Cemetery last Tuesday.
