She was preceded in death by her siblings; Herman, Howard, Leonard, Alice, Bud, Lois, Ralph, John, Jack and Warren. Jean grew up on a family farm in Litchfield, Nebraska during the depression. She was noted to be a tomboy and loved working with animals and in the gardens and orchards. She graduated from Litchfield High School in 1934 and took a teaching certificate. She taught in a rural school for a year before coming to California. In the summer of 1936 she and her fellow teachers embarked on a 5,800 mile adventure to California. She moved to California in 1939 and worked at MacGruders Popcorn Stand on the Long Beach Pike. On February 12, 1942 she married Robert Lampshire Petzold. They settled in Long Beach and then Lakewood. She delivered Meals on Wheels in Lakewood for over 10 years, loved playing cards and crossword puzzles, working in her garden and playing golf. Jean travelled extensively with family and friends to Europe, New Zealand and the United States. She was always available to support family in need, moving in with her sister, Alice when she was terminally ill and then assisting her son and his family when her daughter-in-law Kitty passed from cancer. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Robert, all of her brothers and sisters, her daughter Jackie and her daughter-in-law Kitty. She is survived by 2 children, 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
