Lee went to work in the Cosden Refinery at Big Spring, Texas in 1953 and worked there until he retired in the early 1980's. He worked in several areas of the plant over his career but spent most of his time on the poly butene unit. He was a Boy Scout Master, little league coach, Ham Radio Operator (W5IKG), a free lance photographer and served as a Constable in Howard County for 12 years. He had a hand in the special effects for the movie Hangar 18, specifically with the interior of the UFO. He also had a small role in the film. He belonged to the local black powder rifle club and he was an avid motorcycle rider. He enjoyed playing music. He played the bass guitar, steel guitar and the keyboard. He played with several bands over the years in and around Big Spring. He was in the Texas State Guard and the Civil Defense air patrol. He was a Storm Chaser. He enjoyed model railroading and had an HO scale layout and an N scale layout at his home. He and friend Doc Hardy built an HO scale model railroad display in a building at the corner of second and Main in downtown Big Spring. The layout featured over five hundred feet of track, a round house with a functioning turn table, 40+ locomotives and over three hundred rail cars. The display was operated by Lee's grandson, Chris Hogg after Lee and Doc had passed away and it remained open to the public for many years.
