U.S. VeteranMr. Roy Gene Amerson, Sr., age 73, of Tennille, died Sunday, February 21, 2016. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 24th, at 2:00 p.m. at the Good Sheppard Church of the Nazarene in Tennille with burial in Zeta Cemetery. Reverend Lamar Brantley will officiate.
Mr. Amerson was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the son of the late Hilery F. Amerson and the late Mae Belle Compton Amerson. He was self-employed as a furniture repairman and restorer. Roy Gene also formerly worked for Anglo American Clays and Lapp Insulator. He was a former member of the Faith Baptist Church in Tennille and he attended the Good Sheppard Church of the Nazarene. Roy Gene was a former active member of the Twin City Country Club. He was famous for growing collard greens and he loved to fish, hunt and work with bees. Roy Gene was a US Army Veteran serving in Viet Nam.
Survivors are: his wife, Janet Jones Amerson of Tennille; sons, Roy Gene Amerson, Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Harrison, and Alan Brock Amerson of Sandersville; grandchildren, Stacey Amerson, Andrew Amerson, Taylor Viles, and Amber Viles; and his sister, Martha A. Soles of East Dublin.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
