Residence: Fincastle, VA; a 24 year-old Clerk; 5'9", hazel eyes, fair complexion, dark hair.
Enlisted on 4/23/1861 in Fincastle, Botetourt County, he traveled 188 miles to Richmond, where on 4/26/1861 he was mustered into Captain Robert K. Thompson's Company "Fincastle Rifles", 11th Virginia Volunteers, as a Private. (This company subsequently became Company D, 11th Virginia Infantry.)
Absent, sick and listed as Acting Color Corporal on July & Aug 1861 Roll.
Slightly Wounded In Action 5/5/1862 at Battle of Williamsburg, VA.
Wounded In Action 5/31/1862 in Battle of Seven Pines, VA.

The 11th Virginia Infantry Regiment was organized at Lynchburg, Virginia, in May, 1861, and accepted into Confederate service in July. Its members were raised in the counties of Campbell, Botetourt, Montgomery, Fauquier, Culpeper, and Rockbridge. It ended the war at Appomattox.
