Frank N. Bilisoly,M.D. Norfolk - Dr. Frank Nash Bilisoly, died at age 90 on October 30, 2012. Born in Portsmouth, Virginia on January 26, 1922, he was the only child of Adeline Foreman Bilisoly and Frank Nash Bilisoly, Jr. "Frankie Nash" grew up on Court Street in Portsmouth, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School. He was a 1943 chemical engineer graduate of Virginia Military Institute, where he became Captain of Company D and was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity, Beta Chapter. He was commissioned in the United States Army during World War II, serving almost three years in the Philippines and occupied Japan, receiving a battlefield promotion to Captain, field artillery. After the war, he returned home and enrolled at the University of Virginia Medical School. Before starting school he took a summer job as interim manager of the Virginia Beach Surf Club where he met the boss' daughter, Indie Bain Lindsay. They were married in 1948 and lived in Charlottesville until graduation. While at UVa, Frank was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the Raven Society and the Omicron Delta Kappa Society. In 1951, Frank and Indie moved to New York City, where they spent a fabulous four years and had their first two children while he trained at New York Presbyterian Hospital. In 1955, the Bilisolys settled in Norfolk's West Ghent and Frank entered practice in internal medicine. He served as President of the Medical Staff at Norfolk General Hospital, assistant medical professor at Eastern Virginia Medical School and was a founding partner of Norfolk Diagnostic Clinic. He put in long hours on rounds at the hospital but was always on call to family and friends… his wit and charm never lost on anyone. Outside of his medical practice, Frank's passion was golf. He was clearly better at the former, but not for lack of practice. He could be found at the Princess Anne Golf & Country Club every Thursday and Saturday afternoon. An avid skier and member of the "Dixie Downhillers," Frank enjoyed free lift tickets after age 70 and could easily be spotted on the slopes in his bright yellow ski boots. Upon his retirement from NDC in 1988, his love of gardening led him to a short and distinctly unprofitable career in tree farming. This endeavor included a daily lunch with "the boys" while the trees grew too large to move. To sell the trees, they had to sell the entire farm. In 1989, Frank thankfully returned to practice as assistant medical director with Norfolk Southern Railway, finally retiring for good in 1996. He and Indie thereafter enjoyed travelling and spending summers at their Sandbridge beach cottage, moving to Harbor's Edge when it opened in 2007. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Indiana Bain Lindsay Bilisoly; four children, son Frank Nash Bilisoly, and wife Vickie; son John Lindsay Bilisoly, and wife Koggie; son Harvey Lee Bilisoly and Molly; daughter Indiana Bain Cyrus, and husband Stephen; and six grandchildren, Anica Bowdoin Bilisoly, Frank Nash Bilisoly, Thomas Bain Bilisoly, Benjamin Harrison Bilisoly, William Nash Bilisoly and John Beckett Bilisoly. The family wishes to thank the second floor nursing staff at Harbor's Edge for their constant and compassionate care of "Dr. B." Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Norfolk on Monday, November 5 at 11:00 A.M. with a reception following in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice. H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel is handling arrangements. Online condolences can be made at www.hdoliver.com
