Rev. Edgar Lee Savage, Jr., 82, of Nederland, went to his heavenly home on January 26, 2008, after a brave battle with cancer. He was at home with his wife of 60 years, C. Joyce Spelce Savage, and his daughter Laura Savage-Rains when he went to meet his Savior. Ed was born on Feb. 26, 1925, in McKinney, Texas. He was a WWII veteran decorated with a Purple Heart and four Bronze Stars. He also survived a German POW camp. He attended Midwestern University in Wichita Falls and graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth in 1950. He then served churches throughout Texas. He served the last 22 years of his career as the Director of Church Services for the Golden Triangle Baptist Association consulting with about 90 Southern Baptist churches and missions in the area. Ed was a gifted teacher, artist, encourager, and supporter of the arts, especially sacred music and the theater. He was a faithful churchman and deacon, a loving husband and wonderful father. He is survived by his wife and daughter and son-in-law, Rev. Mark Savage-Rains, and two step-grandchildren. Ed was loved and respected by all who knew him or had the privilege of working with him. A celebration of his life and ministry will be held at First Baptist Church, Port Neches, on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 2:00 pm. Visitation of the family will be held in the Parlor of the church beginning at 1:00 pm. The family requests that those attending wear bright colors because Ed loved pretty, cheerful things.
