Mary Jane Skinner McCraney passed away peacefully at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, GA surrounded by family on Friday, January 29th, 2016. Mary Jane was born in Brooklyn, NY, but grew up in Stony Brook on Long Island, NY. She received her associate's degree from Marymount College in Arlington, VA and spent most of her working career as a legal assistant. Mary Jane moved to Marietta in 2002 with her second husband John W. McCraney to be closer to family. They soon joined the Roswell Street Baptist adult Sunday School class and created friendships that would support Mary Jane after John passed away in 2007. She was an active member of the Anne Hathaway Garden Club and served as the social chairperson for the Atlanta-Toulouse Sister Cities Committee where she planned many of the club's social activities. She loved spending time with her friends and fondly referred to some of them as 'the steel magnolias.' She enjoyed European travel and had a passion for French cooking. She is preceded in death by her husbands, John "Jack" Eldred and John William McCraney, her brother Francis Melville Skinner, her sister Suzanne Skinner Herold and her stepsons John Michael McCraney and Scott Alexander McCraney.
