Anna Barbara Beraechstresser Brode was born in 1765, the wife of Samual Brode born-1767 died-1836 and Mother of John Michael Brode who married Susannah Zimmerman, And Anna Barbara Beraechstresser Brode Is the paternal grandmother of Mrs. Christina Brode Ricketts--late of Cloverport, Breckenridge County, Kentucky. I am a direct descendent through Christina Brode Ricketts. The Ricketts family in Cloverport Breckinridge County Kentucky referred to the surname as Rachstrasser or Berachstrasser, but the relatives in Pennsylvania referred to it as Bergstresser, and originally was Bergstrasser--meaning 'Mountain Street Dweller'. Christina Brode Ricketts-granddaughter of Anna Barbara Berachstrasser Brode, migrated to Breckinridge County Kentucky circa 1851 with her husband Laban Ricketts. ----- (Pre 9/24/16:) Fockler cemetery was earlier called Shoups burial grounds. Her grave is probably in section A, which seems to be the first and oldest section of Shoup's Burial Ground-now called Fockler. Her grave is probably near the headstone of grandson, Theodore Brode 1858-59, or the Berkstressers. According to old lost tombstone inscription records, She seems to have had a headstone at one time. Perhaps it may have disintegrated (like soft white marble), or become buried under grass. Or she may have a now hard-to-read fieldstone; and sometimes groundskeepers remove crumbled headstones because they get in the way of the lawn mower --------- YES! on September 24, 2016, we finally found her broken and barely-legible headstone lying 9 feet from her grandson's upright and legible headstone: Theodore Brode, in section A-the oldest section. ----- True Stories of Broad Top Mountain and Surrounding Valleys,' by David Foster Horton, is an excellent little book on the history of the surrounding area around Saxton. ---------- Barbara and her husband Samuel Brode probably came to the Saxton area because one of the 'Berkstressers' was already in the Saxton area in the 1770s, as one of the early white families of the area.
