Abbie grew up in Jeannette, graduated from Jeannette High school, and earned her R.N. at Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. PA. During her life she brought comfort and healing to many people, serving as a nurse in hospitals and homes in Pennsylvania, Missouri, Ohio and California.
Abbie married the Rev. William K. Laurie (deceased), also of Jeannette,, on December 20, 1946. They were married for sixty-one years and had five children. After her husband's ordination, Abbie assumed the demanding role of "minister's wife", which she fulfilled with grace and charm, and was a true asset to her husband's ministry. She was a devoted and loving mother to her children and took great joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Abbie was an intelligent, caring and compassionate woman with a vibrant and joyous love of life. She had a special fondness for children, the beauty of nature and, of course, chocolate. She was a gracious and generous hostess and enjoyed cooking and entertaining. Her beautiful smile and easy laugh, along with her kindness and openness of heart made her exceptionally pleasant company and a cherished friend to many. She is survived by her five children, nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Abbie is dearly loved and will be deeply missed by her family and her many friends around the country. Please toast her with champagne and chocolate.
Abbie's ashes will be scattered, along with her husband Bill's, on San Francisco bay in the near future.
Now safely home, may the blessing of peace be upon you, Mom.
