Vyonne Higbee Day Chamberlain Matheson

Vyonne Chamberlain Matheson, age 86, passed away at her home in Parowan, Utah on February 15, 2016. She was born in Cedar City, Utah January 17, 1930, the only daughter of Scott and Arvilla Higbee Day. She had three brothers, Norman, Wilford and Allan Day. Vyonne married her high school sweetheart K C Chamberlain and to their union were born 6 children; Brenda Paul, Carol, Alison, Vicki and Randy.

Vyonne loved tagging 'long side her daddy on the Day Farm in Parowan Valley. When she would fall asleep in the saddle, she would wake up under a rabbit brush, where her father had placed her. She was riding with Daddy before she was one year old. Her most prized love, next to her daddy, was her horse, Pee Wee. She attended Parowan and Cedar City schools as well as the B.A.C.

Vyonne will be remembered for her many accomplishments and musicianship. She spent endless hours playing the piano for city and school musicals. She held the position as organist and pianist for church organizations. She was a wonderful music arranger and writer. Her passion shown through as the arrange of the piece "May the Road Rise to Meet You" as sung by Parowan's Community Choir. She and Ramona Stubbs were the organizers of the group. She was a member of Parowan's Vermillion Voices, director of the Singing Mothers Choir and Parowan's 3rd Ward Annual Christmas Cantata.

She is known as the woman who "gave back" 110%. She was an accomplished horsewoman with many honors, trophies and plaques. She was a member of the Red Hills Wranglers. She was honored as Utah's "Horsewoman of the Year" for 3 years. She loved to be in a wagon train party, crossing states in a live reenactment as well as additional wagon trains. She served as 'wagon master" for one trek from Paragonah to Parowan for Parowan's Birthday celebration.

She freely and willingly gave of her time, energy and talents to her family, church and many friends and neighbors. She was great cook and caterer for weddings, parties and many events. Her wedding cakes were enjoyed by hundreds. She was a wonderfully talented candy maker. Her caramels and pecan logs took care of many sweet -tooths , as well as her fluffy glazed spudnuts, giant cinnamon rolls and delicious pies.

Vyonne loved her trips to Lake Powell with the family, deer hunting at "Hogs Heaven", the family ranch, cooking on an old wood burning stove and exploring the mountains and valleys for arrowhead. She loved the family cabin at Navajo Lake. Summer time would find her riding her lawn mower all over town as she beautified the street corners. She taught her family the value of hard work, helping others, standing up for what is right and the value of independence.

After K passed in 2005, she married Jack Matheson on August 21, 2010. Jack increased our family with four beautiful children, Lance, Voy, Sheila and Cecil and their families. She loved all of Jack's family dearly and loved spending time with them. She especially loved the "sister quilting parties". We are so appreciative of Jack's love and tender care for Mother over the years of their marriage. Their marriage was filled with humor, fun, companionship and good memories.

Vyonne passed away at her home in Parowan in the presence of her sweet husband and daughter, Alison. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Paul Plough and granddaughter Krista Williamson. She is survived by her children, Brenda of Parowan, Paul (Chris) of Henderson, NV, Carol Williamson (Rick) of Arco, ID, Alison Robinson (Ralph) of Parowan, Vicki Ploughof Parowan and Randy (Della) of Cedar City, many nieces and nephews and cousin, brothers Norman (Cherie Taylor) of Parowan, Wilford (Raeona Mackelprang) of St. George and Allen (Brenda Joseph) Day of Issequah, WA.
