Joseph S. Christopher was the son of James M. and Margaret Christopher. They moved to Lamar Co. late in 1870 or early 1871 from Wilson Co., Tennessee.

Joseph lived in Arkansas in the late 1890s. While there, he married his first wife and had two sons, Frank and Ernest.

He married his second wife, Maggie, in Lamar Co. Her full name was Margaret Francis 'Maggie' Brymer. They were married in Deport on Dec. 19, 1900. (Lamar Co. Mar. Rec. Vol. 17, pg. 554) Joseph and Maggie had two children:

Julia (who later married Owen L. Wadley) and
Roy Washington Christopher
