George A. Carlton, whose residence was Quindaro (located in present-day, Wyandotte County, Kansas) enlisted and was mustered into Company A, 6th Kansas Cavalry, as a Corporal, August 14, 1861. During his service he served as a Sergeant and was mustered out at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, November 15, 1864. George also served as a Private in Company E, 4th Kansas Infantry.

George Allen Carlton, age 38 years, a Farmer living at Ferndale, registered to vote July 2, 1877; at age 44 years and as a Laborer at Eureka he registered to June 24, 1882; at age 51 years he was a Rancher at South Fork, Humboldt County, California, when he registered to vote April 23, 1888. George filed from California for a Civil War veteran's pension August 14, 1890, and received application No. 870,392 and certificate No. 656,836. At age 55 years he was a Lather at Eureka, Humboldt County, when he registered to vote April 5, 1892.

In the Eureka City death records, George was listed as single with the occupation of a [stone] mason. He was 62 yoa when he died of arteriosclerosis
