Flemingsburg Minister Dies
FLEMINGSBURG, Dec. 11 - The Rev. W. B. Garriott, 77, a retired minister died atGood Samaritan Hospital in Lexington at 11:55 p.m. Tuesday. He had been admitted Dec. 3.
A native of Carroll County, he had served as a clergyman for 50 years, retiring in June 1958. He was pastor of the Flemingsburg Methodist Church for 10 years prior to his retirement.
Mr. Garriott received his education at Asbury College, Wilmore, and entered the Methodist ministry in 1908. He had served as pastor at Corinth, Germantown, Jackson, Walton, Benson and Curry, Lawrenceburg, Hazard, LaGrange, Erlanger, Prestonburg, Trinity and Covington before coming to Flemingsburg. He had lived here since retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Archer Wells Garriott: two sons, the Rev. William E. Garriott, pastor of the Second Methodist Church at Ashland, and the Rev. Walter W. Garriott, pastor of the Walton Methodist Church; two brothers, the Rev. L. A. Garriott, Bedford, and Beverley C. Garriott, Pendleton; a sister, Mrs. O. E. Kinzler, Enderlin, N. D.; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Flemingsburg Methodist Church by Dr. Russell R. Patton, superintendent of the Ashland District of the Methodist Church; the Rev. W. M. Pope, Flemingsburg Methodist minister, and Dr. Robert L. Anderson, Maysville District superintendent. Burial will be in the Wilmore Cemetery. The body will be taken from the Boone Funeral Home here at 10:30 a.m. Friday to the church to lie in state until the time of the services. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Thursday.
