William Jackson Dollman was born in January of 1840 in Botetourt County, Va. to David Dollman (1806-1890) and Magdalena Lafon (1809-1886), originally of Giles County, Va.

He was a farmer by trade. He also taught school for several years in Springwood, Botetourt County.

William Dollman fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War. He enlisted on May 15, 1861, at the age of 22 years, as a Private in Company A, 28th Va. Infantry Regiment. He was transfered to Company H, Douthat's Company of the Va. Light Artillery in December 1861 (aka Botetourt Light Artillery).

On October 22, 1867, he married Sarah Ann(Brown) Linkenhoker, originally from Tennessee. The Rev. Goode Thrasher conducted the ceremony. This was Sarah's second marriage, her first was to Isaac Linkenhoker, a confederate soldier killed at Fredricksburg, Va.

In the 1880 U. S. Census, they lived in Jackson township, Botetourt County, Va. In the 1900 U. S. Census, they were living in Buchanan, VA.

They had the following children (one from her previous marriage): George Everett Dollman (May 1868); Frank A. Dollman (April 11, 1870); David Thirston Dollman (Nov. 8, 1871); Willa Louise Dollman (July 12, 1874); Edna May Dollman(May 18, 1879); Dennis Mack Dollman (March 8, 1883); Lucy Naomi (1885); and Mary Ann Linkenhoker (half-sister 1860).

He applied for a Confederate pension on May 3, 1900 at the age of 61 years for a wound in his right shoulder received at Port Gibson on May 1, 1863.

William Jackson Dollman passed away in March of 1908.
