Andrew was the son of Captain Abraham Dudney and Anne Shelby Dudney. Andrew's father was killed fighting Creek Indians in the War of 1812 (on November 29, 1814). Andrew was married to Ann Darwin, daughter of Joseph Darwin and was drowned in the Roaring River outside Gainesboro, TN. in 1819. His body was never recovered and he died before the birth of his youngest son, Elihu.
