Zaza Dowell Brasher was born in [Guilford County] North Carolina in 1772 to Capt. Asa Brasher/Brashear and Jemima (Nelson), and died by August 5, 1821 when a Hezekiah Sanders, guardian of Nancy Norton [Zaza's step-daughter], went to court concerning money owed to him from Zaza's estate for the support of Nancy. Probate of Zaza's estate was on February 24, 1823 in North Carolina. Zaza married in 1809 the widow Lucy (McGhee) Norton, (she was previously married to James Norton, and they had a daughter; Nancy Norton).

This Zaza Brasher born 1772 should not be confused with Zaza Brasher born abt 1747 who was the uncle of our Zaza born 1772.

The children of Zaza D. Brasher and Lucy McGhee/Mcgee:
Mary Walker "Polly" (1809-1870) m. Arthur B. Ralph
Jemima Franklin (abt 1811-abt 1848) m. Robert Warren
Margery "Maggie" (1814-1851) m. James Fortune
Asa Dowell (1816-1903) m. Elizabeth Gordon
William T. (1821-aft 1890) m. Mary Lacy

Z. D. Brasher was sheriff of Guilford County from early 1790s to about 1800. He was Justice of the Peace in 1801 and a Member of the General Assembly, House of Commons, 1804, 1805 and 1806. In 1815 Zaza was a Tax Collector for Center Grove township in the north central section of Guilford County, NC. He is listed as owning 400 acres of land valued at $1,000.

On February 16, 1824, a court appointed a commissioner to lay off to his widow, Lucy, her dower in lands on waters of Haw River in Guilford County, NC including the dwelling house and mansion.

Zaza's wife, Lucy, outlived him by 56 years. In about 1826, five years after the death of her 2nd husband, Zaza, she moved to Howard County, Missouri; and then after a couple of years moved near Orrick, Ray County, Missouri to be near her brother, Henry McGee. There she owned land and raised her children in a town named Old Albany, about 2 1/2 miles northeast of present day Orrick, MO.
