Thomas Thornton was born October 20, 1845, near Edinburgh, Scotland.
With his parents, he came to America when he was four years old and located at Sharon, Pa., where he lived until he was 18 years old, at which time in 1863, he joined the army and severed his country in the 57 Pennsylvania infantry till the close of the Civil war. He came to Colorado in 1867, locating at Rosita; later living at Coal Creek and in 1879 he came to Canon City.
In 1889 he married to Mary A. Catlin, who survives him.
Mr. Thornton devoted the greater of his life to mining and prospecting in Colorado and Arizona.
In 1890 he was elected to the legislature, in which capacity he served most acceptably.
He retired from an active life five years ago.
He had enjoyed good health until about three years ago and since that time has been in feeble health. During the declining years he was cheerful and optimistic, so that few realized his real condition, being confined to his bed only ten days.
He died Friday, May 19, at the age of 76. He leaves , beside his widow, two sons, Chas. M. and Thomas A. both of Canon City and five grandchildren. {unknown newspaper obit}
