MARK WILLIAM BOWLUS, 53, of Middletown, died at the Frederick City Hospital Sunday afternoon, an hour and a half after a .22 calibre rifle was dischrged in his hunting coat, shooting him in the neck. The bullet lodged in his brain and he died soon after being admitted to the hospital. With Victor Alexander, Thomas Kohler and two of his sons, Roscoe and Bernard, Bowlus had been walking along Middle Creek. He stopped to crawl through a fence, it was said and the gun in his coat was discharged.

His two sons summoned assistance and Bowlus was rushed to the hospital in the Gladhill Company ambulance.

He was a son of the late Daniel Bowlus and Mrs. Etta Bowlus, Middletown and is survived by his wife, Mrs. ??va Bowlus; four children at home, Helen M., Patsy, Roscoe and Bernard; and a son by a former marriage, Cletus Bowlus, Hagerstown; three sisters, Miss Ruby Bowlus, a home; Mrs. Frank Fox, Braddock Heights and Mrs. George Minnick, Middletown.

Gladhill Company Funeral Home, Middletown, had charge of hte arrangements.

Funeral services for MARTIN WILLIAM BOWLUS, who accidentally shot himself Sunday afternoon, were held Wednesday from the Gladhill Company Funeral Home, Middletown. Pallbearers were: Cletus Bowlus, Frank Nikirk, Robert Nikirk, Chester Hamilton, Ohla Nikirk and Albert Wise. Interment was in the Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown.

Amount his survivors is a brother, Edgar Bowlus, near Frederick, whose name was omitted from the death notice.
