Lydia A. Burre, 97, Leavenworth, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at Cushing Memorial Hospital. Lydia was born on Oct. 9, 1907, in Leavenworth County, the daughter of August Ode and Bertha Hettich Ode. On June 5, 1929, at Leavenworth, she married Karl E. Wikelski; he preceded her in death on May 3, 1978. She later married Anton W. "Tony" Burre on Oct. 2, 1980, in Leavenworth. He preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 1994. Lydia taught school for three years in Leavenworth County. She was a homemaker. Lydia was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School, was the memorial chairwoman for many years, was a member of the Ladies Aid for many years and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She was a longtime volunteer for the Cushing Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. Lydia is survived by a son, Karl Wikelski (Sue), Odessa, Texas; daughters, Delores Landfair (Bill), and Janet Lindgren, all of Dallas; five grandchildren, Todd, Timm, Shaun, Jeff and Terri; five great-grandchildren, Joey, Freddie, Lydia, Steven and Lindsay; and faithful caregiver, Joann West.
She was preceded in death by three brothers; three sisters; and one grandson, Craig. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Friday, May 6, 2005, at the Davis Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Leavenworth, KS. The Rev. Ed Mease will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mount Muncie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
