Dateline: ALFRED
Eugenia (Gena) Carolyn Drown, 92, of Alfred, Maine, formerly of Kennebunk, Maine, passed away in Biddeford on February 7. Gena was born in Kennebunk, Maine, one of six children of Eugene and Dora Smith Drown.
A graduate of Kennebunk High School, Gena worked for most of her career in the business office at Moore Business Forms in Dover, New Hampshire. After retiring, she returned to her hometown and the ocean that she loved. Gena’s favorite outing was lunch out with friends and a drive around the beach, or a drive on the back roads of Maine until lost.
A self-reliant and adventurous soul, Gena loved the outdoors and traveled extensively. She especially liked the western United States, Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji. She was an excellent photographer and never missed an opportunity to take the great shot, no matter how challenging. She was gifted with a dry sense of humor and the ability to make friends wherever she went.
Gena was a generous and caring presence in the lives of her many nieces and nephews, whom she loved. She was a positive influence, by her example encouraging them to follow their dreams and be curious about the world around them.
She was an avid reader and knitter. For many years she knit children’s sweaters year-round for donation to Kennebunk’s Secret Santa.
She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Irma and Edith and her brothers Clarence, Raymond and Elliot.
She leaves several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, beloved relatives Raymond and Barbara Drown, and many dear friends. All will miss her greatly.
At her request, there will be no funeral services.
