Virginia Marie Evans "Queenie", "The Queen Mum" passed away on Monday, February 8, 2016. "Virgie" was 95 years old and had lived in her home in Bountiful, Utah for over 60 years before moving to Wentworth at Willow Creek in 2014.
Born in Salt Lake City, November 15, 1920 to Harold Baddley Swaner and Hazel Marie Rowse. She completed high school at East High School and married Clarence Eugene Evans on March 14, 1942 in Salt Lake City, Clarence preceded Virginia in death when he passed away November 4, 1991 as did Virginia's sisters Marie and Barbara and her parents.
Surviving Virginia is her brother Harold Swaner and Jolene Flammand and her children Harold Evans (Nancy), Shawna Pearce (Kenny), Suzanne Mertlich (Dale) and Steven Evans (Linda) as well as 17 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Virginia was a wife and mother as well and a grandparent dedicated to her family. Her home in Bountiful was the gathering place for her children and "little bees" for decades. Virginia also enjoyed visiting the "farm" in Heber City with Clarence and family until Dad passed away in 1991.
Virginia in younger years enjoyed working in her yard, visiting with life-long friend Addie and entertaining family. As Mom grew older her interests became game shows and crossword puzzles. Moms only time living outside Utah was in Williamsburg, Virginia while dad served in the Navy at the end of World War II. In her last years with Clarence she was finally able to travel to England, France, Italy, and other parts of Europe. She also made it to Hawaii and Mexico always searching for momentos for the little ones.
Virginia will be remembered for her love and concern for others. Mom will be remembered for her courage in living without dad for over 25 years and facing her final years with dignity and lack of complaint.
The family would like to express gratitude for those attending Mom at the Wentworth at Willow Creek, hospice representatives and Lone Peak Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive at 2:00 pm with a visitation one hour prior to services. Family and friends are invited to share condolences at www.wasatchlawn.com.
