Mrs Eva Caroline Payne was born in Collins County, Texas in 1885, to Mary Francis "Mollie" Watts (biological father unknown but may have had the last name Wells) and step-father as of 1900 John Robert Fautt. The longtime resident of Phillips, came to I.T. in 1900 and was married to William Lee Payne on 3 May 1903.
Together they had 2 daughters and 4 sons, Mrs. Mabelle Flahaut, Annie May Payne, John William Payne, Sidney E Payne, Clinton Payne and Samuel P Payne.
A member of the Presbyterian church in Coalgate, she died March 31, 1960 in an Ada hospital.
