A Memorial Service for Eldin Cleatis Beck will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 6, 2012 at the Peace Lutheran Church, Pendleton, OR. Mr. Beck, 75, of Pendleton died January 2, 2012 at Willowbrook Terrace.

He was born May 28, 1936, to Henry Julius Beck and Bertha Lavina Peters Beck in Isanti County, Minnesota. He was the youngest of 11 brothers and sisters. Eldin lived on a farm in his younger years. His Mother died when he was 7 years old. He lived with different sisters until his oldest sister, Ruby, took over his care. He attended various elementary schools in Minnesota and Anoka High School in Anoka, Minnesota. He was confirmed in the Spring Lake Park Lutheran Church, Spring Lake Park, Minnesota on May 25, 1952.

In Minnesota he worked various jobs in his teen years, mainly building construction. In 1953 he decided that shoveling snow and enduring Minnesota’s unrelenting winters was not something he enjoyed. So he boarded a Greyhound Bus and moved to California to join his Father and one brother who had moved there earlier. Soon he joined the Navy and served on a Destroyer during the Korean War. Once out of the service, in Oakland, CA he worked as a warehouseman, the Assistant Manager of a Drug and Variety Store, then as Manager. In 1972 he attended an extensive Sales Training Program in Princeton, New Jersey for E.R. Squibb Pharmaceuticals to prepare him for a Medical Representative position. He was employed by Squibb Pharmaceuticals until he retired in 1986.

In 1961 he married Katherine Marshall in Oakland, CA. They had twin daughters. They were later divorced.

On May 23, 1964 he married Roscella Gillett Ferguson in Reno, NV. They lived in Northern California for many years. He was a good father to his three step-sons. He enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling and motorcycle riding. He was good at carpentry and building construction. In 1986 they sold their home in Yuba City, CA, retired and toured the western states in their 5th wheel trailer, along with their cat. This was an adventurous time. In 1988 they settled in Milton-Freewater to be closer to his wife’s step-mother who needed her care. In 1988 they moved to Pendleton. In 1999 he became an active member of the Peace Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Roscella; twin daughters, Lisa Quisito, Oakland, CA, Lori Berman, Salt Lake City, UT; step-sons, Michael E. Ferguson and wife Maria, Oceanside, CA, Charles J. Ferguson and wife Suzie, Salt Lake City, UT, Howard A. Ferguson and wife Kathryn, Arroyo Grande, CA; 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by sisters, Ruth Carlson, Ruby Hanslick, Luella Bennett, Ione Winch and Loraine Larson; brothers, Parmer, Oliver, Chester, Tom and Norman Beck; daughter-in-law, Susan Ferguson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Peace Lutheran Church, c/o Pendleton Pioneer Chapel, Folsom-Bishop, 131 SE Byers Ave., Pendleton, Oregon. Online condolences may be sent to www.pendletonchapel.com.
