Venice----Funeral Services for Joseph Curtis Cowley, 72, who died Sunday evening after a lingering illness, will be held Thursday at 2 pm. in the Venice Ward Chapel.
Mr. Cowley was born in Logan on Oct 27, 1869, a son of Charles Caesar and Eleanor (Curtis) Cowley. He married Minnie Ann Wall on Sept 6, 1891.
He was an active Church member. He filled a mission in the Northwestern States from 1907 to 1909. He was the first bishop of Venice Ward, and served in that capacity for 31 years. He was secretary of the Sevier County drainage district for 28 years. He was engaged in the mercantile business and acted as postmaster for 26 years.
He is survived by his widow, four sons and five daughters, Mrs. Louise Allred, Deseret; Francis Cowley, Heber; Mrs. Naomi Buchanan, Richfield; Oscar Cowley, Mrs. Elva Davis, Elmer Cowley, Jesse Cowley and Elda Cowley, all of Venice; Wayne Cowley, Provo, and two brothersm I.A. Cowley, Venice and D.C. Cowley, Richfield and 21 grandchildren.
