Obituary for William M. Guttery in The Paris Morning News Newspaper (Paris, Lamar Co., Texas) published Tuesday, January 8, 1918:

OLD RESIDENT DIES ON EMBERSON PRAIRIE

William M. Guttery, an old resident of Lamar county, who was known among his neighbors and acquaintances as "Uncle Wid" Guttery, died at 5 o'clock Sunday evening at his home near Sumner, aged seventy-nine years. He was stricken with paralysis about thirteen years ago and became blind soon afterward, both of which afflictions remained with him up to the time of his death. The immediate cause of his death was heart trouble. He was born in Arkansas and came to Lamar county forty years ago, locating on Emberson prairie, where he continued to reside up to the time of his death. He is survived by three sons and two daughters. Two of the sons, C. C. and Jack Guttery, and one of the daughters, Mrs. Minnie Neal, live in Paris. He was making his home with the other daughter, Mrs. Mollie Everett. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. J. W. Milligan.
