Doris Virginia Beesley Abney Gill, age 94 of Berea died Thursday at the Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was a native of Mt. Carmel, Illinois born to the late Raymond Charles and Henrietta Risley Beesley. Mrs. Gill was a member of the Gethsemane Baptist Church, loved spending time with her family and caring for children, playing the piano and crocheting. She also loved to have a cup of coffee with a friend or neighbor and her flower garden.
Mrs. Gill was preceded in death by her husbands, Hobert Dewey Abney and John E. Gill, her brothers, Dale and Eugene Beesley, her sister, Alicia Wilmot, a son-in- law, Billy Wynn and a grandson, Eddie Wayne Abney.
She is survived by her children; Dewey Lee (Frances) Abney of Morristown, TN., Charles Ray (Polly) Abney of Mt. Vernon, KY., William Eugene Abney and his companion Sheila Evans of Berea, KY., Jackie Dale (Pat) Abney of Mt. Vernon, KY., Alicia Lou Abney Wynn, Richard Wayne (Beverly) Abney, and Edward Lewis (Susan) Abney all of Berea, KY. A brother, Bill Beesley of Illinois, 13 grandchildren; Lee Abney, Chad Abney, Carrie Vargas, Brian Keith Abney, Tammy Taylor, Stephanie Richmond, Darren Ray Wynn, Sherri D. Cotton, Arick Abney, Angie Abney, Melissa St. John and Amanda Chasteen. 22 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Wednesday at Davis & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Cortez and Rev. Bill Woods officiating. Burial will follow in the Davis-Witt Cemetery; her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
