Cindy Lynn Alvarado, age 52, passed from this life at her home in Mt. Airy, MD on Wednesday, February 3, 2016. She was tended to with love by her family, especially her precious boys, Taylor and Casey and her husband and best friend, Mark Keyser. Cindy and Mark were joined in eternal marriage on January 31, 2016.

Cindy was a passionate educator who quietly encouraged students, colleagues, family and friends to live boldly, love fiercely and celebrate each and every moment.

After graduating from SUNY Fredonia with a BS in Education, Cindy drove out to California in her Chevy Citation with her 3 best friends, Grateful Dead cassette tapes and a dream of becoming a teacher.

In California, Cindy embraced all it had to offer - when not teaching, you could find her hiking, rock climbing, snow/water skiing, running or enjoying any activity that had to do with sunshine and outdoors. Upon her first son Taylor's birth she longed to be near family and made the decision to move back to the East Coast and settle in Maryland.

She joined the Frederick County Public school System in 1996 after teaching for 10 years in California and 1 year in the Baltimore County Public Schools. While at New Market Elementary school in 2003, she held positions of assistant principal and, in 2010, led NMES to be named a National Blue Ribbon school. Despite her cancer diagnosis in July 2014, Cindy took the helm of Carroll Manor Elementary school, as its beloved principal. Cindy was named Outstanding School Administrator by the Maryland State Superintendent's Advisory Council for Gifted Education in 2014.

Many, many people called Cindy their friend and there is not enough room to list all who touched her heart, held her hand or laughed with her until she shed tears of joy. She will be missed but her sparkle continues. Not just in the images of her with a twinkle in her eye but in the beautiful jewelry she made and gifted to so many.

Cindy is lovingly remembered by her husband, Mark Keyser and sons, Taylor and Casey along with her step-children Seairra, Morgayne and Jackson Keyser as well as her parents Howard Chase and Marion Angle, both of Syracuse, NY. She is also survived by her siblings, Howard (Fionna) Chase; Amy Chase Martin; Stacy (John) Wanamaker; Marc (Ann) Chase as well as many adoring nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald Alvarado and step mother, Phyllis Chase.

Cindy lived her life with quiet, steadfastness and filled her spirit with every joyful moment. She leaves behind a spirit of adventure and passion for travel - teaching us all to explore and embrace new experiences and places.

Calling hours will be Friday, February 5th from 1-3 pm and 5-8 pm at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E Ridgeville Blvd, Mt. Airy, MD.
