Port Wentworth – Archie Calvin “A.C.” Chaney, age 90, of Port Wentworth, GA passed away on February 4, 2016 after a long illness.

A.C. was born on July 19, 1925 in Lawson, Arkansas. He moved to Port Wentworth in 1957 with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Chaney, three sisters and four brothers in law. Surviving is his sister, Virgie Armistead of Knoxville, TN. He was the youngest and only boy of his family.

He will be missed by his devoted wife of 68 years, Thelma, his daughter Gay Tuten (Terry); his son, Mike Chaney (Sherri); his four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

A.C. worked in the chemical industry for 38 years before his retirement. He loved working in his yard, camping, and traveling with his wife, Thelma. He was an active member of Jasper Springs Baptist Church where he was Deacon Emeritus. He attended the Ed Young Senior Center. He was also a Mason for 65 years.

He accepted his illness with “amazing grace”. The family wishes to thank members of the Jasper Springs Baptist Church, other churches and friends who prayed, visited and sent cards during his illness. Also, caregiver Thea Zeppone, Charlton Visiting Nurses, and Hospice Savannah for their compassionate care.

Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 p.m. and a celebration of A.C.’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Hillcrest Abbey West on Dean Forest Road in Savannah.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith, now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness.
