Thomas Knight was born and raised in Smith County, TN. He served in the Navy during World War I, as a Quartermaster 3/C, aboard the USS Ozark, from 1917 to 1920. After his service, he moved to Mount Marion, Ulster County, NY, where he lived the rest of his life. While living there, he was a member of the Lake Katrine Grange and other community organizations, and would often winter in Florida. Mount Marion news articles in the Kingston Daily Freeman indicate that he was admitted several times to various hospitals in the years preceding his death. Thomas married Louise (Bader) Cooper in Fort Lauderdale, Broward County, Florida on 19 January 1951. Louise, daughter of George and Louise (Lussnig) Bader, was born about 1896 in Austria. She lived in Mount Marion, and would also winter in Florida.

Tom was mentioned as being a patient in the Kingston Hospital on 7 February and died 13 February 1953 in Kingston, NY. He is buried in the Mount Marion Cemetery, Saugerties, NY. A Veteran's headstone was ordered for him by his friend, John A. Dederick.

The following is a transcription of his obituary which appeared 20 February 1953 in the Catskill Mountain Star: "Thomas Knight, 60, of Mt. Marion, died last Friday in Kingston. His wife, Mrs. Louise Bader Knight survives. He was a native of Nashville, Tenn and a WWI vet. Funeral by Rev. J.E. Fernades-Comacho, acting pastor of the Mt. Marion Reformed Church. Burial in Mt.
