Albert Cheramie
Albert Joseph Cheramie, 72, a native of Golden Meadow and resident of Galliano, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galliano. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with interment in the church mausoleum.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dianna Marie Cochennic Cheramie; four sons, Kirk, Peter and wife, Beth, Gabriel, and wife, Dixie, and Michael Cheramie; four daughters, Susan C. Terrebonne and husband, Glen Sr., Connie C. Daigle and husband, Jeffery, Teresa C. Crosby and husband, Jefferson "Sonny," and Annette C. Weaver and husband, Richie; one sister, Ismay Theriot of Cut Off; one brother, Charlie Cheramie of Reno, Nev.; 20 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Augusta Gaspard Cheramie; four brothers, Leonard, Alex, George and Johnny Cheramie; and six sisters, Rosa Doucet, Sedonia Boudreaux, Rosalie Boudreaux, Leonise Cheramie, Leonore Mozley and Irene Raymond.
He was a boat owner, tankerman and licensed captain by the U.S. Coast Guard.
He was an extraordinary eucharistic minister and a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galliano. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, K.C. Council No. 3150, St. Pius XIV 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and was a founding board member of Catholic Community Services, where he served as treasurer for 11 years. He received the Bishop’s Medal for his devotion to the Catholic Church and his work with the youth of his parish. He also received the Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award, the Man of the Year Award from the Holy Name Society and Hardest Worker Award from the Cajun Festival.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, a strong, quiet man and a hard worker who had a deep compassion for others. His joie de vivre and wonderful storytelling will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Catholic Community Services in Galliano are preferred.
