Walter J. Frey, 97, died on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at CareOne at Valley in Westwood, NJ. He was the husband of the late Ruby R. (Smith) Frey, to whom he was married for 66 years.

A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February, 20, 2017 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth RD., York. A viewing will be from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22 at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, 250 Chestnut Hill Rd., York.

Born on March 24, 1919 in York, he was a son of the late David T. and Sarah F. (Black)

Frey. Walter was a staff attendant at Pilgrim Psychiatric Center in Long Island, NY until his retirement in 1979.

Mr. Frey served our country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in York.

Mr. Frey enjoyed flying motorized model planes, fixing watches and playing the violin. He was a member of the original York White Roses Drum & Bugle Corps of York Post No.127 American Legion.

Mr. Frey is survived by two sons, James A. Frey and his wife, the late Linda L. of Hillsdale, NJ and Kenneth W. Frey and his wife, Patricia of York; seven grandchildren; ten great- grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, David, Ralph, Harry, Charles, Arthur and Earl Frey; four sisters, Mary Lutzinger, Elizabeth Peterman, Helen Smith and Evelyn Renner.
