Lillian Marie Owens was born March 12, 1933 in Natchez, Mississippi to the union of the late John and Willie Dell Ailsworth. She received her education in Natchez, Mississippi before the family moved to Oakland, California in 1951.

Lillian met Manuel Owens in Natchez, Mississippi and they were united in holy matrimony on May 7, 1954. To this union were born four children. Lillian and Manuel shared forty-one loving years as man and wife. He preceded her in death on June 24,1995.

Lillian was a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) working at Highland Hospital, Fairmount Hospital and Brookdale Hospital. She worked tirelessly for the Oakland Unified School District as a volunteer, community leader, and district representative with Lafayette Elementary, Marcus Foster Middle and McClymonds Senior High schools. In later years she started her own business as a tax preparer.

Lillian accepted Christ at an early age and served faithfully until her illness at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church first under the leadership of Rev. Dennis Ross Sr and then with Rev. Levy DePlush Sr. She worked willingly and joyfully as President of the Senior Choir, Church Clerk, Financial Secretary, Bible Study Teacher and Leader/Mentor of the Young People's Group. Be it a bake sale, car wash, bible study, Sunday school, choir rehearsal, business meeting, baptisms, home goings, celebrations, prayer service, if the doors of Mt. Pleasant were open Sister Owens was somewhere onsite.

Mama Owens was the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. It did not matter who you were, she greeted you with a smile, kindness and open arms. If you came into her home as a stranger, you were not one when you exited. A seat for a tired body, a hot meal for an empty stomach, an ear to listen to your troubles, a shoulder to lay your head upon and strong arms for that much needed hug. No child was without a parent as long as she was around. She did not simply pass through your life, she touched it.

She leaves to witness and cherish her home going, her six devoted children, Deborah Owens of Oakland, California, Manuel (Marleasa) Owens Jr. of Antioch, California, Alice Owens of Oakland, California, Carolyn (Steven) Jefferson of Oakland, California, Rekki Grant of Concord, California, Ricardo (LaToya) Grant of Rancho Cordova, California; ten grandchildren, Leina (Ramon) Martinez of Oakland, California, Jennifer (Nichole) Macias of Los Banos, California, Jamal Davis (Arianna Rangel) of Oakland, California, Aaron Jefferson of Oakland, California, James Jones of Fremont, California, Sabrina Jefferson of Berkeley, California, Jamie Jefferson of Richmond, California, Stefanie Jefferson of Hayward, California, Sabria and DeVon Grant of Rancho Cordova, California; six great grandchildren, Asha Harris of Columbia, South Carolina, Alani Martinez of Oakland, California, Natalie Sowers and Tabitha Jefferson of Berkeley, California, Jayla and Jayda Jefferson of San Leandro, California; a loving sister, Georgia Wilson of Antioch, California; special daughter, Alvirdia lvra Owens of Oakland, California; her brothers, John "Jukebox" Ailsworth Jr., Richard "Big Richard" Ailsworth, Franklin "Uncle Frank" Ailsworth preceded her in death.
