Arnold 'Arnie' G. Ness, age 84, went to be with our Lord on Monday, December 12, 2005, at his home in Pasco.
He was born July 21, 1921, in Goldstone, MT, to Swan Ness and Anna Wiik, but was raised in the farming community of Rudyard, MT.
Arnie resided in Rudyard until World War II when he joined the U.S. Navy. His tour of duty began with 10 months in Pasco at the Naval Air Station on the flight line. He then joined the Navy Submarine Service serving two years in the South Pacific. He received an honorable discharge in San Diego in 1946.
After a few Montana winters, he returned to the Tri-Cities to manage two Economy Service Stations in Pasco for 20 years.
During that time, he opened a car lot, and in the 1970s, he began the first Subaru dealership in the Tri-Cities. Later, he moved the business to Kennewick and added British Leyland and Peugeot companies, which he sold in 1978.
Arnie continued selling at other dealerships until he retired in 1991. He never lost his love of cars and enjoyed spending time with his friend of many years, Ray Morrow, checking out the car lots. He also enjoyed golfing and was an active member of the Desert Springs Covenant Church community.
Arnie is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Joann Ness of Pasco; daughter, Laurie Ann Ness of Richland, daughter, Lynn J. Francis and her husband, Russ, of Tigard, OR; grandchildren, Christina Lynn Albert of Tigard, OR, and Ryan Michael Albert of Gresham, OR; sister, Grace Ness of Seattle, WA; brother, Buster Ness, and his wife, Grace, of Rudyard, MT; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Ness.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at College View Baptist Church, 2100 W. Agate St., in Pasco.
Mueller's Greenlee Funeral Home in Pasco is in charge of arrangements.
