Kenneth G. Hardway, 96, of Springfield, died at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at his home.

Kenneth was born December 4, 1919 in Marshall, MN, the son of Hershel and Cora Boyer Hardway. He married Anita Benton and she preceded him in death. He later married Alice E. Gibson on August 26, 1962 in Lawrenceville, IL.

Kenneth graduated from Martinsville High School in 1940 and proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He attended Eastern Illinois University, and earned his bachelor's degree from SIU at Carbondale. He later attended Southern Baptist Seminary and then in 1968 earned his master's degree from Indiana State University at Terre Haute, IN. Kenneth pastored at seven churches in central Illinois over the last 50 years having served the last 30 years at South Cross Baptist Church in Robinson, IL. He had also been employed as a High School English/Speech teacher at Elkville High School for ten years and Lawrenceville High School for 32 years. In 2004, Kenneth and Alice moved to Springfield, IL and became members of Chatham Baptist Church. Kenneth was a Mason since 1946 and a member of Ansar Shriner's 32nd degree. He enjoyed yard work, camping and cooking.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Agatha Holsapple and three brothers, Donald, Theodore, and Maurice Hardway.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Hardway of Springfield; his children, Mary Sue Clark of East Alton, Marcia Myers of Springfield, Myra Reeser of Henderson, NV, and Paul "Todd" Hardway of Springfield; eight grandchildren, Anita, Valerie, Jamia, Sarah, Elizabeth, Emily, Nathan, and Daniel; seven great-grandchildren, Michaela, Cora, Benjamin, Evelyn, Hannah, Ethan, and Dylan and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.

Memorial Gathering Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of ceremony at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home, 1303 S. 12th St., Lawrenceville, IL with Revs. Dwight and Jerry McDaniel officiating.

Burial will follow at Lawrenceville City Cemetery in Lawrenceville, IL.
