He was born on Aug. 1, 1945, in Peoria, Ill., to Donald and Ruth (Sutton) Brooks. He married Suzanne Bennett on July 27, 1968, in Peoria, Ill. She survives.
Also surviving are four children, Robert R. Brooks of Lancaster, Calif., Scott A. (Emma) Brooks of Washington, Ill., Angela L. (David) Walley of Toronto, Ontario, and Renee J. (Opey) Rowell of Manito, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; one brother, Donald Brooks of Arizona; two sisters, Judy Knack of Washington, Ill., and Marcia Duke of Beechgrove, Tenn.
Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother and stepfather, Martin Hartter.
Robert worked as a welder at Caterpillar for 31 years, where he retired in October of 1997. He also worked at Coyote Creek golf course for 13 years.
