PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FL Nancy Lynn Alderman, 65, devoted daughter, sister, aunt, friend and colleague passed away on Monday, January 25, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. Her strong faith in Jesus Christ gave her the strength to persevere in her final years.Nancy was born in Raleigh, NC on November 29, 1950 to the late Dr. Allison M. Alderman and Ruth Edwards Alderman. She was raised and baptized at First Baptist Church. After graduating from Needham B. Broughton High School in 1968, Nancy attended Wake Forest University, where she graduated in 1972 with a bachelor of arts degree in English and a minor in art history. Nancy had many passionssports, art, music and travelbut nothing brought more joy to her life than spending time with family and friends, especially her two nephews and her niece whom she adored. Nancy was "the cool aunt," "the giver," and the family historian. She remembered everything, never missing an important event in a person's life. She enjoyed spending time at her home on Figure Eight Island, playing and watching sports, and traveling the world. She was fortunate to have visited three continents and numerous foreign countries, but the city of Paris was closest to her heart.In the business world, Nancy was a visionary, mentor, and loyal employee. She worked as a corporate executive in the retail fashion industry for 30 years. Her admirable career began at age 25, when she was the youngest and first female selected as Divisional Merchandise Manager for Belk Stores. She went on to run Belk's New York City office as Senior Vice President of Belk Stores Services. In 1998, Nancy left the city to work for Stein Mart as Director of Product Development and Fashion Retailing at their headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida. She motivated others to reach their full potential throughout her career until she retired in 2009. Nancy was a member of Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. She volunteered at St. Luke's Hospital in Manhattan. She served on the Board of the Handicapped Boy Scouts of New York and the Board of Directors of the Wake Forest University Calloway Business School. Nancy was truly blessed in this life. She was smart, with impeccable taste and an amazing sense of style. Her life, full of passion and grace, inspired all who were fortunate to know and love her. She will be deeply missed.She is survived by her sisters Jean Clarke (Bill), and Allison Morrisette (Bill); nephews Will Clarke (Jennifer), and John Morrisette; niece, Morgan Morrisette; grandnephew, William Clarke. Jr.; and stepmother, LaBette Alderman.The family wishes to express special thanks to Nancy's dear friends in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Dr. Thomas Gaddis of the Cancer Specialists of North Florida, Hospice of Greensboro, NC, and Dr. Gus Magrinat of the Cone Health Cancer Center in Greensboro, NC for their exceptional care of Nancy during her illness.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 617 N.
