Vernon Ralph Amundson, 76, of Cable, died April 7 at his home.
He was born June 10, 1927, in Cable, the son of Emil and Esther (Frels) Amundson. He attended school in Cable and then joined the U.S. Marines Corps on August 14, 1945. He was honorably discharged on August 31, 1946. He moved to Oregon where he worked for a sawmill. He returned to Cable and worked as a heavy equipment operator for the town of Cable for several years. He was joined in marriage to Beverly Voigt on March 4, 1967 in Cable. He went to work for Bayfield County as a heavy equipment operator where he worked until his retirement in 1989. He was a past member of the Moose Lodge in Hayward and the American Legion Post #48 in Cable. He enjoyed working on his tractor, feeding deer and anything to do with the outdoors.
Survivors include a son, Steven (Chris) Amundson, Black Diamond, WA; five daughters, Pam (David) Fiser, Ladysmith, Peggy (Paul) Meyer, Rice Lake, Vicki Bender, Ladysmith, Ardis (John) Shearer, Queens Creek, Ariz., Debra (Dennis) Sandberg, Renton, Wash.; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold "Swede" (Kay) Amundson, Cable; Allen (Ann) Amundson, Cable; one sister, Betty Reichert, Hillsdale; two sisters-in-law, Lois Amundson, Cable, Delores (Marvin) Senarighi, Hermantown, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Beverly, and one brother, Elmer "Buddle" Amundson.
Funeral: A service was conducted on April 12 at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Cable, with Pastor Lynn Larson officiating. Military rites were accorded by the Cable Stokes-Liebman American Legion Post #48.
