Saratoga Springs Saratogian, Friday, Sep 4, 1959, p4

Excerpt from "Old Paper Recalls Depot Fire of 1899"

"This week, a friend brought me a copy of The Daily Saratogian for Thursday, Feb 9, 1899, and since The Saratogian and all its files and records were destroyed in a later fire, the Arcade fire of 1902, this issue is of value and interest."
........
"THE MOST DESTRUCTIVE conflagration in Saratoga Springs since the paid fire department was established, has passed into history and the only feature of it that money cannot replace is the loss of one life that was sacrificed to the elements James V Snyder, the watchman."

Cards of Thanks.
Mrs James V Snyder and children wish, in this way, to tender their gratitude to the Delaware & Hudson depot, baggage room and, National Express Company employes, and to all who sent flowers; to the Methodist Episcopal Church choir and to all who in any manner extended their aid and sympathy on the occasion of the family's great bereavement in the loss of husband and father.
*****************************

NOTE: His body may not have been recovered from the fire and he may not have a grave in this cemetery. He may have a memorial with his wife. Any additional information will help. Thanks.
