Elizabeth M. Smith, 87, Nickelsville, Va.

NICKELSVILLE, Va. - Elizabeth M. Smith, 87, Route 2, who saw good and beauty in everyone, entered into rest Wednesday (April 28, 2004) at the Brian Center in Weber City, Va.

Born in Scott County, Va., she had resided most of her life in the Moccasin Valley area and approximately three years (1933–1937) in Kingsport.

She attended and was a lifelong member of New Bethel Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Charlie Droke and Ora Ann Hilton Fugate; her husband, Homer W. Smith; sisters, Ethel Francisco, Vesta Fugate and Loretta Dougherty; and brother, Vernon B. Fugate.

Surviving are her daughters, Nora Alice Pope and husband, Judson, Church Hill, Elizabeth Ann Taylor, Nickelsville, Va.; sons, Carl W. Smith and wife, Joann, Kingsport, and Charles D. Smith and wife, Dremia, Kingsport; granddaughters, Cathy Piner, Kim Banks, Michele Kirk, Cynthia Price, Amy Cradic and Alisha D. Taylor; grandsons, David M. Smith, Carl Smith II, Steve Crowder, Wesley Pope, Will Taylor and Matthew Taylor; 13 great-granddaughters; four great-grandsons and a great grandson-to-be; two great-great-grandsons; sister-in-law, Bonnie Fugate, Hiltons, Va.; two special sons-in-law, Mike Taylor and Douglas Crowder; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Gate City Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Leroy Pierson and the Rev. Layton Bentley officiating.

Music will be provided by the Smith Trio.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va. The family will be meeting at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Saturday to go in procession to the graveside service at the cemetery.

Grandsons: David M. Smith, Carl Smith II, Steve Crowder, Wesley Pope, Will Taylor and Matthew Taylor will serve as pallbearers.

Our family wishes to extend our special thanks to the following caregivers, Dr. Gregory Demotts for his loving care and friendship to our Mom over the last several years, and to the entire staff and members of the Weber City Brian Center for their outstanding care and compassion shown to our Mom and family during the last years of her life. Also, to an eight-year-old pen pal and visitor of hers by the name of Jacob Crabtree, Yuma, Va., who brought comfort and joy to Mom, sharing his pictures and visits at the Brian Center over the past several months.
