Albert Eugene “Gene” Coppinger age 88 of Graysville died Saturday morning, January 30, 2016 at the Spring City Health Care Center. Gene was born in Graysville on August 4, 1927 the son of the late Albert and Beulah (Covell) Coppinger. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Reba (Smith) Coppinger and his grandson, Chad Purser.
Gene worked as a coal miner and retired as a boilermaker for TVA. He was a member of the Boilermaker - Blacksmith Local #454, the Scottish Rite, the Masons and he was a Shriner. Gene was a long time member of the Graysville United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Gloria (Rusty) Purser, his granddaughter, Jennifer (Kevin) Smith and his great-grandson Kole Smith all of Dayton. He is also survived by his two brothers, Ken (Barbara) Coppinger of Dayton and Jeff (Lois) Coppinger of Graysville, three sisters, Carole Rogers of Middle Valley, Phyllis Hulgan of Dayton and Willidean Wilkey of Chattanooga.
Funeral services for Gene will be held Sunday afternoon at 4:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bobby Schafer and Rev. David Whaley officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his wife in the Pleasantview Cemetery in Graysville.
