Betty Joan Cooper, 80, of Port Lavaca, passed away Friday, January 29, 2016 at Detar Medical Center in Victoria with her family by her side. Betty was born November 13, 1935 in Port Lavaca, TX to W.B. and Lillian Heinroth Neill.

She married Dale E. Cooper on February 4, 1956 in Port Lavaca and this week they would have celebrated 60 years of marriage. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker who loved quilting, cooking and volunteer work.

Betty never missed an opportunity to play a game of hand and foot with her friends or travel to a new destination with the girls or Dale. She was passionate about serving others and volunteer work. Betty would lead Bingo at Trinity Shores, Senior Citizen Center and the nursing home with her dear friend Susie. Spending time making crafts and sharing laughs at the Senior Citizen Center brought Betty joy beyond measure. She was part of the Quilting Angels of First United Methodist Church in Port Lavaca where she lovingly made quilts for those that were in final stages of life. Betty also volunteered each week at Harvest Kitchen where she served meals to the less fortunate. Betty was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 167 and the VFW Post 4403. She loved spending time with family and friends and did so at every opportunity.

She is survived by her husband, Dale E. Cooper of Port Lavaca; daughter, Kandis Ann Venglar of Victoria; son, Neill Frank Cooper and wife Janene of Port Lavaca; brother, David Neill of Waco, TX; granddaughter, Heidi Carter Haight and husband TJ of Deer Park, TX and grandson, Maxwell Venglar of Deer Park, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Thomas Neill of Seattle, WA and W.F. Neill of Seadrift, TX.
