Dr. Billy ”Bill” Cornelious Dorminy, 88, died Thursday evening (January 28, 2016) at his residence in Waycross after a short illness.
Dr. Dorminy was born in Hoboken, Georgia to the late Andrew Cornelious Dorminy and Nora Belle Newton Dorminy Lastinger. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and attended the University of Alabama where he received his undergraduate degree, afterwards he attended the University of Pennsylvania and received his doctorate degree.
Dr. Dorminy was a practicing Orthodontist in Waycross for many years beginning in 1965 and then retiring in 1989 he was also a member of Central Baptist Church. He held other memberships with the Okefenokee Country Club and the American Dental Association. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Marjorie Welch.
Dr. Dorminy is survived by his wife Phyllis Dorminy of Waycross, a son, Kipp Dorminy of Waycross, a step-daughter, Cindy Dell of Waycross, a brother, Jerry Elkin Dorminy of Corpus Christi, Texas, a step-sister, Betty McIlrath of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, two nieces, Jane Welch Crane husband Dave of Birmingham, Alabama, Pat Lay of Albany, Georgia, a sister-in-law, Julie Reed husband Ron of Lilburn, Georgia, two brother-in-laws, Carl Gentry wife Angie of White Oak, Georgia, Coleman Gentry wife Cathy of Kingsland, Georgia, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
