Jack was born September 1, 1932 rural Clay County, SD, the fourth of four children born to James J. and Margaret (O’Donnell) McCarty. Jack attended Pleasant Valley Rural School and graduated from Wakonda Public High School. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was united in marriage to JoAnn Dwyer, February 15, 1955. To this union eight children were born. LouAnn, (Gary) Cameron, Glenwood, IA; James, (Deanne) McCarty, Mission Viejo, CA; John M. McCarty, Wakonda; Kathleen, (Scott) Binder, Montrose, SD; Thomas, (Barb Goeden) McCarty, Yankton; Patricia, (Don) Hubert, Beresford, SD; Michael, (Amanda) McCarty, Charles City, IA; and Donald, (Anne) McCarty, Brookings, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, JoAnn; brother, Philip McCarty, and sister, Bridgetta Anderson and a daughter-in-law Kay McCarty.
He is survived by his children, fifteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and sister, Mary Margaret Ehinger.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM Friday, January 29 at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Wakonda, with burial to follow in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 6:00 PM Thursday with a rosary at 7:00 PM followed by a prayer service all at the church.
