Herbert Leon Randle, 86, of Lakehills, Texas, passed away on January 25, 2016, at his home in Lakehills,. He was born in Houston, Texas, to A.. C. and Emma Mae Randle, on March 4, 1929. He married Susie Ethel Johnson on November 23, 1949, in Port Acres, Texas.

He attended 21 schools in his journey to graduation from Stephen F. Austin High School, in Port Acres, Texas, in 1949, and was Valedictorian of his class. Prior to moving to Port Acres, he attended La Vega High School, in Waco, and was a member of the football team. He was a person of many talents, serving his apprenticeship in commercial refrigeration, and worked for a time in that industry, but quit that job because he could not take a day off to get married. He then went to work for the Jefferson County Mesquito Control Department, and was promoted to Acting Director at age 21. He later worked in bakery maintenance in Corpus Christi. He worked for Reynolds Metal Company for 10 years. While living in Corpus Christi, he owned and built stock cars, racing in Texas and throughout the mid-west with IMCA Racing Association. He was the owner of an independent auto repair shop and served as President of the Corpus Christi Independent Garagemen’s Association. He helped implement the apprenticeship program in the Association and trained the first full-time apprentice in the program. He and his wife moved to Houston where he worked for Sam White Oldsmobile for several years and trained apprentices there. He was top mechanic in the Southwest for a number of years. Later, he and his wife moved to Eagle Pass, Texas, where they owned and trained Quarter Horses, operated a hunting lodge, raised cattle and pecans. They moved to Lakehills in 1995.

He served in the National Guard for three years.

He is preceded in death by his parents;, A. C. Randle, Jr. and Emma Mae Randle; his son, Richard Mabry (Dicko) Randle; two brothers, Richard Mabry Randle and A. C. Randle, III.

H. L. is survived by his loving wife, Susie Ethel (Essie) and their faithful Great Dane, Herbert; his Grandson, William Randle, and his wife, Laudette, great-grand children, Nicole and Leon Alexander, of Corpus Christi, Texas; daughter-in-law, Linda Randle, of Corpus Christi, Texas, his sister, Shirley Randle Kethley, and her husband, Leon Kethley, and their children, of Port Arthur, Texas, sister-in-law, Betty Flowers, of Binger, Oklahoma, and niece, Sharon Flowers, of Sulphur, Oklahoma, sister-in-law, Helen Randle, of Pasadena, Texas, and her sons., A.C. IV, Richard and Bob; sister–in-law, Anna Mae Leysath, and her children; sister in-law Carolyn Henderson, and her children, and many loving friends and extended family.

H. L. loved traveling to Aruba and Jamaica and cruising the Caribbean. He also enjoyed traveling in the motor home to Padre Island and the Big Bend. He was an accomplished song writer and guitar player, singing daily with his Great Dane, Hebert, as they serenaded his loving wife and favorite niece.

A visitation will be held Thursday January 28, 2016 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera.

Graveside services will be Thursday, January 28, 2016, 2:00pm at the Pipe Creek Cemetery, officiated by his Nephew, the Rev. Paul Kethley, of Deer Park, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Grandson, William Randle; Nephews Richard Randle, Robert Randle and Charley Leysath; Great-Nephew, Josh Randle; and Jesse Sanchez. Honorary Pallbearers: Nephew, A. C. Randle, IV, and Doug Franks.

The family extends special thanks to Doug and Helen Franks, Dr. David Friedman, the staff of 8th Floor South at Methodist Hospital, San Antonio, Diana Corona and the other nurses and aides with Vitas Hospice and for all the prayers and support offered by everyone.
