Tasso served in the Army during World War II and retired after 46 years in grocery store management. He attended Lindside, WV United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, William "Bill" John Butler, and six siblings, Burtis "Bud" Butler, Mattie Bell Copeland, Versie Dudd, John Butler, Euphemia Natolie, and Charles Butler. He is survived by the mother of his six children and former wife of 43 years, Donna Jean Butler.
